Favorite Quote: I’m not a murderer, and I’m not even a killer, I simply exaggerate self-protection.

Story Synopsis: Veera is a successful CEO of a luxury arctic resort in Lapland, Finland. Dealing with the richest clientele, Veera manages all sorts of whims, excursions, and proclivities. When a sex worker procured for a client turns up dead in her lodge’s jacuzzi, Veera’s world begins to unravel little by little.

Why does this book beguile? I delightedly picked this book up at an airport gift shop because I love Lapland and all things Finnish.

This book was a wild ride. At just 185 pages, The Last Sound of Aurora, was a crazy path of murder, sex, and spirituality. To use a famous line, “At no point did I know what would happen next.” This book left me thinking and wondering WTF I just read in the best way possible. It’s dark and snarky, much like the Finns, and yet somehow lovely and delightful despite the dark elements.
