Favorite Quote: A person could work and work and work, and still never “earn” their dues. Sometimes success meant determination… and sometimes, it was just luck.

Story Synopsis: Reyna, a loyal queensguard, fell in love with Kianthe, the Arcandor and Mage of Ages. They decide to run away together and set up a bookshop and tea shop in a small town called Tawney, hoping to avoid the queen’s spies and retribution as long as possible. As they build a life together and fall more in love, Reyna’s former friend and colleague, Venne, finds Reyna to return her to the queen for her inevitable execution.

Why does this book beguile? I picked this book up after a friend recommended it. While the start was a bit slow, I loved the adventure Reyna and Kianthe experienced. Can’t Spell Treason without Tea is a sweet, cozy fantasy love story full of silly puns, magic, and community. If you’re looking for a high-adventure, guaranteed-happy-ending book, look no further!
