Favorite Quote: Why fret, after all, over the one of one’s skin or the shape of one’s nose when the entire human body is an absurd one-way trip to the grave?
Story Synopsis: Mr. Caesar makes it his mission to ensure his sisters find appropriate matches to secure their futures. When his sister Mary makes a wish to be beautiful, a fae grants the wish, imbuing her with beauty by turning her to glass. While Mary is getting tangled in the fae world, Mr. Caesar finds himself getting rescued by the dashing Orestes James and stumbling upon a human-sacrificing cult. These two worlds collide and Mr. Caesar is at the center, trying to right his wrongs and dealing with family, love, and his internal complexities.
Why does this book beguile? A follow up to Mortal Follies, Counfounding Oaths is a love story with adventure, intrigue, and British high society swirled together. There were quite a few subplots - so many that I lost sight of the main plot, but I thoroughly enjoyed our returned narrator, Puck. The author left the door open for more stories, so we shall see what happens!
