Story Synopsis: Alexey goes by DJ Aspirin in his role at a radio station and onstage at clubs. Coming home one night, a young girl clutching a stuffed bear waits near his building. Trying to be a good Samaritan, DJ Aspirin allows the girl to his apartment for a safe place for the night.
Before he realizes it, DJ Aspirin faces claims that this young girl, Alyona, is his daughter and has come to find him to attend music school. Between her ethereal nature, ability to play the violin, and stuffed bear that seems to come alive in moments of danger, DJ Aspirin forms a connection with this girl while she attempts to complete her mission and return to whatever plane of existence she calls home.
Why does this book beguile? I bought this book from my local bookstore as a “blind date with a book.” It was billed as “weird” and “mysterious,” and those adjectives are accurate! I didn’t know what to expect from Daughter from the Dark, but it absolutely falls into my “weird novel” phase I’m in. There are paranormal elements, family/found family elements, and urban fantasy aspects as well. It’s a unique story and stays with you, making you wonder what exactly happened.
