Story Synopsis: Back at Basgiath War College, Violet is desperate to find a cure for Xaden after he channeled from the earth the way the enemy does. The venin increase the frequency and severity of their attacks throughout the kingdom, disrupting life at Basgiath and causing riders to be sent to the front lines. Violet, Xaden, and their newly christened “Quest Squad” are in search of the irids, Andarna’s particular breed of dragon, hoping they’ll help fire the wardstone and fight alongside them against the Venin.
As the Quest Squad travels miles and miles away from Basgiath to the outer isles, they discover new cultures, old connections, and both pass and fail challenges designed to test their mettle. Xaden, newly instated Duke of Tyrrendor, works to manage running a province as well as making Violet his top priority. Relationships blossom and crumble, all while the Quest Squad fights physical battles abroad and political ones at home.
Why does this book beguile? OKAY, so I have feelings about Onyx Storm. While I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, Onyx Storm is absolutely a middle book. It starts with a bang and ends with a cliffhanger. A lot of stuff happens, but also…. Nothing happens? At least not yet. I hope Rebecca Yarros brings many of these adventures and plot points back in the fourth and fifth books. Until then, we wait!
