Song of the Fae by Tricia O'Malley

After several successful fantasy-romance series, Tricia O’Malley debuted The Wildsong Series with Song of the Fae. Set in the fictional Irish town of Grace’s Cove, O’Malley brings back a few characters from a past series for all-new adventures.

Imogen, captain of the Mystic Pirate, finds herself the unwilling participant in a rescue mission when Lily, the Prince of the Fae’s partner, is taken hostage by the Domnua (Dark Fae). Imogen’s independent nature is tested when she must learn to trust strangers with her life and heart.

I’ve read all of O’Malley’s novels, and Song of the Fae fits nicely into Grace’s Cove. Even if the writing waffles between eloquent prose and cheerful fanfic, you root for the characters. I was a bit disenchanted with the last of the Mystic Cove novels and felt they were phoned in a bit and followed too much of a template. Song of the Fae feels more like a continuation of The Isle of Destiny Series – my personal favorite – but I’d like more detail in the writing.

Overall, 4 stars. It’s a fun, warm-hearted book, and I’ve already pre-ordered book two!
