2024 Best Books and Reading Wrap Up
I re-read my 2023 Best Books & Reading Wrap-Up, which started with: It’s that time again! 2023 is done, and I’m happy to put it in the rearview mirror.
And I laughed and laughed and laughed.
2024 was not one of my favorite years, but it had some high points to be sure. Once again, I am glad to put this year in the rearview and focus on 2025 and all the wonderful things to come.
I continued to use The Storygraph this year because their data tracking is much better than Goodreads, and they keep delivering excellent features, including my newest favorite feature, the ability to pause books you’ve started! Let’s get into the stats!
When I began 2024, my goal was to read more fiction - at least 75% (again, same as 2023) - and I did not get as close as I’d hoped! I also wanted to read the 14-book Wheel of Time series… which also did not happen. I did get through three books, but the show is just SO MUCH BETTER.
In 2023, a new local bookstore, Blackbird Books & Coffee, opened in July. We faithfully visit every week and usually end up with a book (or 18). You can see how much my physical book reading jumped up this year!
I read all of The House Witch and The Burning Witch books this year by Delemhach, followed by Sara Cate’s Salacious Players’ Club series for my top authors.
I read the exact same number of books, but decreased my pages. I had quite a few short novels this year and didn’t read as much fantasy as I’d wanted, which really ups the page count.
Best Books of 2024
With all those books, you’re probably wondering which ones are the best. I did get a bit tougher with my ratings and The Storygraph lets you rate in quarters too (4.25/4.5/4.75 etc.).
Here is a list of the best books for these categories. For the full breakdown, sign up for emails for subscriber-only activity.
Standalone Novel: The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer
Series: The House Witch by Delemhach
Nonfiction: Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake
Going into 2025, I plan to read another 100 books, with at least 75% fiction. I’m also resetting my goal to finish the fourteen (14!) books in The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
