Story Synopsis: A Court of Mist and Fury picks up following A Court of Thorns and Roses, with Feyre having been made a High Fae after the events Under the Mountain. Feyre is struggling. Her wedding to Tamlin approaches, and she’s forced into the role of the dutiful wife: picking out decor, wearing flowy gowns, and being excluded from strategic conversations about Tamlin’s border patrols. As Feyre walks down the aisle to marry Tamlin, she has second thoughts. At that moment, Rhysand calls in his bargain before she can marry Tamlin. Feyre must spend a week each month at the Night Court. While there, she learns more about Rhys’ true nature, his motivations for his actions Under the Mountain, and how she wants to be treated.

Feyre’s three weeks a month at the Spring Court continue to suffocate her, culminating in Tamlin locking her behind his wards in the manor house. Feyre explodes with rage and magic and quickly finds herself safe at the Night Court with Rhys. Slowly, giving Feyre a choice at every turn, Rhys introduces her to the problems the Fae lands face, his city of Velaris, and his Inner Circle. When Feyre agrees to work with Rhys and his Inner Circle, she begins a journey to find a magical object that may be used against the humans and a journey to heal from the events Under the Mountain and at the Spring Court - with Rhys supporting her along the way.

Why does this book beguile? It’s not every day that the second book of a series is as good as the first. Often, second books are stepping stone books, full of detail and backstory but with little action. A Court of Mist and Fury has detail and backstory but also has a solid story with action, romance, and humor. Readers learn more about Rhysand, and you meet Cassian, Azriel, Morrigan, and Amren. Feyre grows as a character as A Court of Mist and Fury sets the stage for an epic book three.
