Favorite Quote: So Nesta had become a wolf. Armed herself with invisible teeth and claws, and learned to strike faster, deeper, more lethally. Had relished it. But when the time came to put away the wolf, she’d found it had devoured her, too.

Story Synopsis: A Court of Silver Flames changes direction slightly from the previous ACOTAR books by following Feyre’s eldest sister, Nesta. Utterly broken from being Made a High Fae by the Cauldron and then seeing her father murdered in front of her by the King of Hybern, Nesta is in a dark place. She spends her time drinking and seeking strange men for her bed. After giving her time to sort through her feelings, Feyre, Rhys, and the family give Nesta an ultimatum: live at the House of Wind and train with Cassian or be delivered to the Human lands to fend for herself. Nesta chooses to stay in Velaris.

Slowly, Nesta comes out of her depression. Through her friendship with Cassian, an Illyrian woman, and a priestess, Nesta adapts to her situation and works to accept it. When she’s called upon to find the Dread Trove, three magical objects that could be used against Prythian by new enemies, Nesta’s training takes on new significance as she must learn more about her Cauldron powers and how to control them.

Why does this book beguile? A Court of Silver Flames feels like the start of a trilogy about Nesta. I thoroughly enjoyed this story because so much of the world-building occurred in earlier ACOTAR books, the reader is able to truly enjoy Nesta’s character journey. While Feyre’s story was more about Feyre unlocking what was already within her, Nesta must go through a large transformation to become who she’s meant to be. A Court of Silver Flames also moves Cassian into a major character as he trains Nesta daily, and they strike up a physical relationship. This is probably my favorite book so far of the series. The physical scenes are spicier, there is more humor, and the character journey is deeper, darker, and longer for Nesta. I hope there’s another ACOTAR coming soon!
