Favorite Quote: Cats are rarely troubled by the things humans fret over, which apparently included the end of the world, and I found myself comforted by her insouciance.

Story Synopsis: When Agnes finds herself the victim of a magical battle outside her cat shelter, she must find a new space to house both her cats and herself. By fate or happenstance, she ends up renting a lovely space from an absent landlord named Havelock: the same Havelock who is the world’s most infamous magician and who nearly caused the end of the world. When a mysterious stranger shows up in Agnes’s cat shelter demanding to see Havelock and his secret magic basement shop, Agnes (and the cats) become embroiled in a magical rivalry between siblings that escalates until Agnes is forced to step in, step up, and let go.

Why does this book beguile? This book is a joy from start to finish. Agnes is a healthy, mature adult who, after facing hardships, still chooses to do the right things. I love how the cats were described (nailed it) throughout the book and the magic system and magical elements were pure fun. This is a delightful cozy fantasy novel for all ages!
