Favorite Quote: That was the way of grief, I was realizing. It was a barrage of pain that was so unbearable that it made you numb. And then out of nowhere, something made you feel again and the cycle started over from the beginning.

Story Synopsis: James Golden, back in her rural woodland hometown after twenty years of living in San Francisco, is dealing with the sudden death of her twin brother Johnny. His death, labeled as a hunting accident, sent shockwaves through the small town. James’ return brings up tragic and terrible memories for her, but her twin-connection with Johnny leads her to believe his death was more than just a hunting accident. As she unravels the timeline around his death, she finds more and more inconsistencies, leading her to uncover multiple secrets the town is hiding.

Why does this book beguile? I borrowed A Sea of Unspoken Things from the library and was pleasantly surprised by its length: 277 pages. It was an easy read about grief, death, and secrets without being lascivious and overly long. Truthfully, I think it could have been 50 pages shorter, too. It was an enjoyable book, easily read in a day, and gently deals with death and how to grieve in the face of unfathomable tragedy.
