Favorite Quote: Animals began telling stories of Silver Nose’s nightly journeys and his signal fires. It did not take long for others to start calling him Flame Fox. A being who was black as night during the day and who set fires on fells as the rest of the world was fast asleep.

Story Synopsis: Biegga, a sweet husky, goes on an adventure to learn the origins of the Aurora Borealis. Along the way, he meets Silver Paw (a fox), and Miss Shiny (a Siberian Jay). The trio venture into the snowy world of Lapland to discover the origin of the Aurora and the legend of the Flame Fox. The Flame Fox is said to set the sky on fire with his tail each night during the winter, but Biegga doesn’t quite believe the story. They meet Lady Boreal, Father Christmas, and a helpful reindeer to aid them on their journey.

Why does this book beguile? This is SUCH a sweet little book. I picked this up at the Rovaniemi airport in Finland on my last trip there. What a delight! The author, Annika Welling, does such a wonderful job of explaining the myth of the Aurora through the eyes of woodland creatures. Biegga and the Tale of the Flame Fox is both a wonderful kids story and a lovely holiday kids book.
