Favorite Quote: It occurred to him that a spell to make one’s enemies into idiots via the power of breasts might be immensely helpful. Then again, it might not be a spell. It might have only been the breasts.
Story Synopsis: After waking up with no eyebrows and no memories, Dread Lord Gavrax struggles to piece together who he is and why everyone around him cowers in his presence.
As Gav goes through an existential crisis, his castle is beset by multiple concurrent crises: a princess locked in his dungeon, a poor village harvest resulting in not enough food for the winter, and three other dark wizards coming to his castle to perform a dark ritual. What could go wrong?
Why does this book beguile? What a fun little novel! Dreadful is a cozy fantasy, but instead of the good guys, the bad guys take center stage. There’s great action, hilarious quips between characters, and a few delightful surprises along the way. A great novel to offset some of the heaviness of current events.
