2022 Reading Challenge - Best Books of January

At the start of 2022, I set a reading goal of 130 books for myself, with a stretch goal of 183 books for the year. It’s important to remember that reading isn’t about the competition or quantity of books you read. I set goals for myself so I don’t lose the habits I want to keep. Having a book goal keeps me from watching too much TV or playing endlessly on my phone. After reading 12 books in January, here are my favorites.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Jackson wrote a fun, fast-paced novel with just the right twists and turns. I’d call this a wholesome thriller-mystery. Highly recommend!

Hell of a Book by Jason Mott

I want – no, need – everyone to read this book. I see it growing in popularity on social media and it’s so deserving of the accolades. Hell of a Book is not overhyped; it’s that good. Highly recommend!

Favorite Quote:

I was dead center of the bell curve in school. I was a prodigy of mediocrity.

Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo

Nothing but delight. I enjoyed everything about Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. This duology follows characters seen in the Shadow & Bone Netflix series. I plan to read the Shadow & Bone trilogy in February, which should probably be read before Six of Crows, but no matter what, you’ll love the characters, twists, turns, and masterful plotting Bardugo wove into both novels. Highly recommend – will re-read!

Favorite Quote from Six of Crows:

“I trade in information, Geels, the things men do when they think no one is looking. Shame holds more value than coin ever can.”

- Kaz Brekker

Favorite Quote from Crooked Kingdom:

…Fear is a phoenix. You can watch it burn a thousand times and still it will return.
