Story Synopsis: Kyra, stuck in an abusive relationship, manages to escape her situation when Jadox kills her boyfriend. Jadox, who has been trying to find Kyra for a year, inadvertently unlocks Kyra’s ability to do magic. When Kyra wishes away all the males in the world, everything is turned upside and Kyra must make a choice: defy prophecy and save her only nephew or link with a male who seeks to use her for his gain?

Why does this book beguile? Scorched is a fun book with two different POVs: Kyra and Jadox. There is a lot of action, dialogue, and movement throughout the book and I think it would make an excellent screen adaptation. Swindon did a great job of building a world with magic, questionable villains, and good vs. evil. There are fun parallels with our world, as well as elemental tribes and magic.
