Story Synopsis: Finlay Ashowan - Fin - is the new cook for the King and Queen of Daxaria. He has his hands full, cooking three meals daily for the castle's residents and navigating the head of housekeeping, errant knights, and nobility who like to linger in the kitchen for gossip.

Fin is also a house witch, which is not public knowledge within the castle. Witches have a history of persecution, and while the king is kind and just, Fin wants to be known as a cook, rather than a witch. When a stranger delivers his familiar in the night, Fin begins to realize others at the castle may know what he is. As he creates an environment of safety as part of his house witch magic, he unwittingly makes friends across social classes and becomes a true asset to the King.

Why does this book beguile? The wonderful owners of Blackbird Books and Coffee recommended The House Witch to me as a “cozy, fantasy romance” and that is a spot-on description! The series is so uplifting and delightful. The conflict is believable, and the characters are mature, well-rounded adults. The House Witch is the perfect series to bring in a new year!
