Story Synopsis: The Lost Apothecary tells the story of present-day Caroline and late 1700s Nella. These two women have different problems, but they share similar troubled relationships and external forces seemingly working against them. Nella owns an apothecary and is known among women to help prevent unwanted pregnancies. Caroline is married, unhappy, and thinks she may be pregnant. As Caroline is on vacation in London, she uncovers the secrets of The Lost Apothecary and what might have been.

Thoughts & Feelings: The Lost Apothecary is told from two points of view. It felt like Nella’s part was both real and seen through the eyes of Caroline. I liked Nella’s story. I wanted this book to be dark and empowering for women in the late eighteenth century. However, Caroline’s story kept getting in the way. I’m glad her part was smaller than Nella’s. I enjoyed the story overall and found it compelling, but I did not like Caroline and couldn’t relate to her at all.
