Story Synopsis: Silla Nordvig has spent her life on the run with her father. Before they can raise suspicions in their current village, they leave in the night with the promise of safety in a far-north town. Before they can get too far, they are ambushed by the Queensguard looking for someone matching Silla’s description. She finds her way to a town and stows away with the legendary Bloodaxe Crew - on their way north for a different mission. When the Bloodaxe Crew finds Silla and they keep getting attacked on the Road of Bones, Silla’s true nature is discovered.

Why does this book beguile? This book has been on my shelf for a while. I love Nordic-inspired stories and The Road of Bones could easily be set in a Iceland/Norway type landscape. The pace felt quite slow for the first 100-125 pages (and I almost DNF’d it), but then it picked up. I’m so glad I stuck with the book because I thoroughly enjoyed it! Plus, I got the second in the series as an ARC, so I’ll be reading that quite soon!
