Favorite Quote: He’d had enough experience of both kinds of misfortune to know that there was a vast difference between feeling yourself a victim of random strokes of fate and having to accept that your troubles had been brought about by your own folly.

Story Synopsis: Cormoran Strike and his partner Robin Ellacott have been hired by Mr. Edensor to make contact and hopefully extricate his son, Will from a religious cult. When Robin goes undercover to infiltrate the cult, she must remember to avoid full indoctrination while also managing a new relationship in the “real world,” and giving regular, secretive updates to her detective firm. While Robin is in the cult gathering information, Strike must work on the outside investigation by tracking down former cult members and unraveling a sinister web of deception and crime. He also must confront his feelings for his partner without ruining the current balance for the agency's sake.

Why does this book beguile? I love this series! I am fully invested and love to read these books. This book's continuation of the Strike-Ellacott partnership is well done, especially after their relationship’s evolution. At this point, it’s quite difficult to explain the book without giving away spoilers for previous books. However, I am delighted to say that The Running Grave is the best book of the series so far. The subtle commentary on religious cults and religious fanaticism is relevant without being effusive. As Robin and Strike work together and their dynamic evolves, they bring a much-needed balance to each other, making the story and the characters that much more believable.
