Story Synopsis: Two stories: late 1800s post-Civil War in Cape Cod and 1940s WWII in Hatteras, North Carolina. A daughter seeks out her father’s first wife, whom he deserted in Cape Cod to start a new life and new family in Cape Hatteras. When she finds Blythe in Cape Cod, Blythe tells the stories of her father and gets to know the woman who could have been her daughter, had the tides been more favorable.

Why does this book beguile? I picked this up at Buxton Village Books in Buxton, NC (Cape Hatteras). I’m from the Outer Banks and always enjoy reading lore that takes place in the area. As it happens, my parents know Angel Khoury, and I was excited to read the book. It’s very lyrical and the prose is evocative and beautiful.
