Favorite Quote: The unsaid thing about funerals is that directly after the communal mourning for someone you love, after everyone is gone and the connected grief dispersed, comes a solitude beyond imagining. A great, gaping nothing where a whole person and life and future used to be. The other side of a funeral is abyss.

Spoilers for Legendborn Ahead!

Story Synopsis: Bree Matthews wanted to find out the truth behind her mother’s untimely death. Now, she’s facing her new reality as a Scion of Arthur, Medium, and Bloodcrafter: a combination of abilities which has never been seen before. On the run with her most trusted friends, Bree is hell-bent on looking for Nick and finding safety for herself and her friends while trying to learn how to access her magic. When Bree discovers the Hunter, Arthur’s ancient foe, is seeking her, she must decide how much of herself to reveal to the world and what it will cost her.

Why does this book beguile? Like Legendborn, Bloodmarked is packed with action, character development, and magic. I thoroughly enjoy Bree and Selwyn's character arcs, and I love how Tracey Deonn has woven the Arthurian legend with a modern-day YA Black voice. The book completely ended on a cliffhanger, and I am HOTLY anticipating the third in the Legendborn Cycle, Oathbound.
