Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson
Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts
Author: Carol Tavris & Elliot Aronson
Read: June 2022
Genre: Non-Fiction
Format: Kindle
Synopsis: Mistakes Were Made looks at crucial moments in both past and present to understand the cognitive dissonance that plays a part in our inability to admit when we’ve made a mistake and why we double-down on being wrong.
Comments: I do love a data-driven book, but this book was dry. I also struggled with the formatting of the book because the authors don’t have many headings or subheadings throughout to note when they are changing subjects, examples, or making a concluding point. I felt there was a lot of fluff in the middle of each chapter which did not keep my attention. I liked learning about cognitive dissonance and the psychology that plays into it, but the authors used twenty words when two would do.
