Synopsis: What if we lived in a world with a shorter work week, cleaner air, renewable energy, and better economics? Authors Klein and Thompson seek to challenge the status quo of today to bring about the change needed to bring about the world we need. Throughout the book, the authors compare spurts of innovation with the following decades of regulation and litigation.
Why does this book beguile? Abundance has made the rounds lately on bookstore shelves and generated buzz in the nonfiction space. I was happy to get it from the library and dive in, having recently read Amplify by Adam Met. Abundance is a data-heavy book focused on how governments can and should help citizens, but how governments are stymied by various factors. Exploring those factors, the authors explore what can be changed reasonably and how.
I did not love this book. It did a great job of looking at political issues (which are all the issues) from multiple sides and angles, however, it was so dry and fact-based, it lost me toward the end. There was almost no personality in the book and while I appreciate a non-biased approach, I felt like there was no author-voice at all.
