Favorite Quote: Learning how to push yourself to take action when you are afraid or full of self-doubt or overwhelmed with excuses is a life skill you can learn. Once you master it, you’ll understand that you can achieve anything through small, consistent moves forward.
Synopsis: When you get frustrated with people in your life, it’s not you, but the power you give to others. When you try to control - or even influence - the actions and behaviors of others around you, you drive yourself crazy because you’re trying to control something impossible to control. The Let Them theory is the antidote to giving your power to others. When your friends hang out without you: let them. When your partner loads the dishwasher in a way that you dislike: let them. On the flip side, Robbins also explains the “Let Me” component of the theory. Let me not worry about my friends gathering without me. Let me not sweat how the dishwasher is loaded so long as it’s loaded. This powerful tool will help you better manage your emotions and deal with stress.
Why does this book beguile? My husband recommended this book to me, and we both loved it. The Let Them Theory is an incredible tool and system to deal with a crazy world full of people who don’t behave as you want them to (whatever way that is). By ‘letting them,’ you retain your power, emotions, and maturity in the face of chaos. Pro tip: the audiobook is longer and more like a podcast than the written book.
